In the "Introduction to Graphite" series, we'll take a look at what graphite is and what it does.  Carbon has existed in nature since ancient times. Diamonds, charcoal, coal, soot, etc., which many people are familiar with, are all made of carbon atoms. Fullerene, which you have recently heard of as an ingredient in cosmetics, is also an allotrope of carbon (a molecule composed only of the same element). Carbon is not only found in some things, but also in the proteins and skeletons that make up our bodies, the liquid crystal displays in our homes, various types of transportation equipment, tires, paper, medicine, computers, food containers, stationery, etc. The list is endless. Carbon underpins our lives everywhere.

Among carbon materials, Toyo Tanso processes graphite. However, isotropic graphite has a hexagonal structure that is randomly arranged and its physical properties do not change in any direction (isotropic). In addition, isotropic graphite has various excellent properties due to the physical properties of carbon and its crystal structure.

In fact, Toyo Tanso pioneered the mass production of large isotropic graphite materials in 1974.
